Not always: Infection can only occur in people who have contaminated water pass into there nose usually while swimming. Not known why some people exposed get infected and others do not but instances are very rare in USA. Only 34 cases in last 10 years so not a big volume to study or test. Usually found in warm lakes or rivers or poorly maintained pools or ponds.
