A member asked:

Been diagnosed and am being treated for hyperthyroidism with levothyroxine (0.05mg), felt no different before, feel no change, should i stop taking it?

No: First off, levothyroxine is used for hypothyroidism, confusing because it sounds similar, and hypo is confusingly characterized by high tsh. Your condition was probably "subclinical hypothyroidism", meaning abnl function was seen on a lab test before symptoms developed. Treatment may be indicated in the absence of any symptoms; if you want to stop, discuss the pros and cons with your pcp.

Hyper or hypothyroid: There must be some confusion. Hyperthyroidism is a condition with too much thyroid hormone and would never be treated with levothyroixine. Perhaps you were diagnosed with hypothyroidism and given levothyroxine for treatment. In any case see your doctor to discuss your situation and get properly treated.
