A member asked:

My dad had a traumatic head injury on christmas eve. he was discharged on the 28th. he is running a fever of 38.1 now, no other symptoms besides recovering still from the concussion. do we need to be concerned?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Management: Clinically, he would have no worse prognosis from an infection even with the brain injury, assuming no immunological medications, such as steroids, are being employed. But if he has cognitive sequelae, he may be unable to assist in his care if ill. This would require more vigilance on part of caretakers. Contact the prior treatment team and discuss management interventions.
