Suddenly noticed a small painless lump on right side of neck below and posterior to ear..no other symptoms?

Lymph node?: It sounds like this might be a small lymph node. If you have had any recent ear/respiratory symptoms the node could be a reaction from that. If no symptoms now, you can probably keep an eye on it/recheck size 1-2x/week for a few weeks, but see Dr for exam if no smaller or if pain/enlargement/new symptoms develop

Lymph node: Most likely a lymph node that belongs there and has been there for years. And you just bumped into it. Show 2 a member of your health care team.
