EMS: Eosiophilia- Myalgia Syndrome (EMS) is diagnosed by 3 criteria: A full workup of the patient for neoplastic disorders or infections should be undertaken. If negative for all, then a simple CBC with diff can detect eosinophils in the bloodstream. If they are over a specific number, and myalgia is present, the syndrome is confirmed. L tryptophan ingestion may cause EMS.

No such test: Start with your primary care physician for an exam and detailed medical history, specifically use of L-tryptophan in the past. A rather poorly understood group of disorders, in case needed care can be escalated to a specialist, rheumatology and/or hematology.
