Numbing the nerves: This is a series of shots around the cervix to numb the entire area up. By numbing very specific nerves, the whole area goes numb, allowing for procedures to be performed such as biopsies.

Numbing the nerves: The doctor puts his fingers in the vagina and guides the needle beside the cervix and injects loacl. It usually hurts very very little. The uterus gets numb and one can do iud, biopsy, scope, deliveries and stuff that does not hurt the top of the uterus. I.V sedation can usually be given if no baby. Complications can be severe like siezures if the local goes in a vein, injecting the baby is rare.
