GP is fine: A dog bite that breaks the skin needs to be examined by a Dr (GP will do) in order to determine how deep the puncture wounds are, if any underlying structures are involved and to administer antibiotics to prevent infection. Is the dog vaccinated against rabies? If it is not, it needs to be quarantined for 10 days and your child should receive Rabies prophylaxis shots.

GP: It sounds like she has gotten superficial wounds that her GP should be able to address. Hopefully your dog is up to date with its shots.

Evaluation: The baby should be evaluated right away. The facial structures are delicate and your pediatrician may ensure that there is no further injury. Keep the skin clean and dry until evaluated. The status of the dog should be discussed and the shots records provided to your pediatrician. Safe supervision of the dog and keeping the dog away from the baby is important at home. Family members Flu Shot.
