A member asked:

I had an mri of the brain. i have 3 questions. what does "dwi negative" mean? what is "mild to moderate ventricular prominence and enlargement, consistent with aging related parenchymal volume loss?" last, what is "opacification left frontal sinus"

3 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

No major problem : 1 DWI negative is good. the MRI technique is called diffusion weighted imaging 2. most people as they get older tend to have some brain volume loss This is a very common finding in nomal people. 3) left frontal sinus reading may represent long-standing or new sinus infection/inflammation. If you are not having headaches above the left eye, have no fever or nasal discharge, do not worry.

Answers: 1. Left sinus is congested and consistent with chronic sinusitis or obstruction 2. C/W aging reflects the brain atrophy that occurs as we age 3. Negative is positive;i.e., no strokes, tumors, bleeding.
