Persistent coughing: Cought often persists for several weeks after the initial infection has cleared up. The exact reasons usually aren't known, but often involved "reactive airways" -- inflammation that makes the bronchial tubes constrict, not unlike asthma. Usually it's just an inconvenience, not a serious problem. But see your doctor if it persists more than 2-3 months, or if you are short of breath. Good luck.
