A member asked:

I recently cared for patient being admitted for exacerbation c.o.pd on oxygen at 2l with sats of 93 per cent. appeared stable with no obvious signs of distress for several hours. upon transfer to floor became unresponsive .can this occur without sign?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

COPD : A patient with COPD who also has an oxygen requirement has difficulty not only ventilating there lungs but also getting oxygen from the lung into the bloodstream. This type of patient is at higher risk for complications that can develop. If they also have heart disease or diabetes it further complicates their situation.
