Check BP: May be related to high blood pressure or coughing or sneezing or even just some irritant in eye. Any other symptoms, any affect on vision? Is he taking any blood thinners? Need more info but blood pressure check at least would be prudent and if any affect on vision would seek examination without delay.

No worry: If there is no vision decrease or pain with eye movement or light sensitivity, this is a subconjunctival hemorrhage, which is similar to a black and blue mark n the skin. Enjoy your vacation--it will clear within 10 days. see my article at https://www.medicinenet.com/subconjunctival_hemorrhage/article.htm
