A member asked:

How does levonorgestrel / plan b delay the lh surge / delay ovulation? is there an article or anywhere i can read / learn more about this. thank you dr.?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Plan B ?'s: Plan B (with levonorgestral, a synthetic progestin) does not "delay the LH surge" or ovulation. The contraceptive effect of Plan B when effective will inhibit attachment of the fertilized egg on the lining of the uterus, thereby stopping a pregnancy from becoming viable. See your gyn physician and discuss low dose oral bcp's to be more secure in contraceptive efforts.
