My 19 year old daughter, a type 1 diabetic has flu symptoms such as dry cough, body aches, stuffy nose, mild diarrhea and loss of taste. should she get tested for covid-19?

YES: Need to test ASAP as she is at increased risk of complications from Covid due to her diabetes. Test and contact her doctor, drink plenty of liquids, get plenty of rest and maintain tight control of glucose. Self quarantine till you know results and do not wait but go to ER if symptoms get worse. Early treatment is key

Yes: Most common symptoms of Covid are dry cough, fever, sore throat, and fatigue. There may be loss of smell/taste senses. The above symptoms are suspicious enough to warrant testing. Consult physician. Meanwhile, good idea to self-quarantine, rest, increase fluid intake, treat fever with Acetaminophen. Seek immediate care if any severe breathing problem. Diabetics can be at increased risk.
