A member asked:

52 yr old female who has gained 30lbs in the past 2 yrs.. ive studied many diet plans, but the last study i read stated the lack of hormones can cause weight gain, true or false? diet?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Weight gain ?'s: After 40, all of us (males alike) have reduced metabolism secondary to loss of muscle mass, so gradual weight gain usually occurs. A rigid diet of low carbohydrates (starch, bread, sugar, etc.) coupled with increased walking (w/o causing shortness of breath) for 45 minutes three times a week will reverse the weight gain slowly. This is not strictly a "hormonal problem".
