A member asked:

Hi doctors, if there is a moderate to heavy growth of strep group b found in vagina, would this be considered having bv?

Not necessarily: Group B strep is a common transient ( comes & goes) germ found in up to 30% of women's cervical mucus at a given time. It is a germ common to the stool & easily finds it's way over to the vagina by cross contamination. It is occasionally the cause of a UTI. If you have no symptoms I would not consider it a problem.

No: In females with BV (bacterial vaginosis), protective Lactobacillus species are replaced by increased concentration of Gardenerella vaginalis, Mycoplama hominis, and Prevotella, Mobiluncus, Ureaplasma species.
