A member asked:

Hello. i am 10 weeks and 4 days pregnant. i'm just wondering about vitamin d. is it safe to take more than 400 iu of vitamin d per day ? or is this the safest dose?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Appropriate dosing: Blood levels, might suggest a goal of 50-70 ng/ml but younger folks should take lower amounts, 400 IU of D-3. Older than 40 yrs, perhaps needing 800 IU daily. Important vitamin which acts more like a hormone in the body. Discuss with your obstetrician, as needs may be rather variable.
