VIt A and Pregnancy: Somewhat controversial. One study indicated that intakes of 10000 iu or more should not be taken for 7 weeks prior to a pregnancy attempt. Once pregnant, a minimum amount of vit a is essential - 3-4000 iu. Women taking smaller amounts of vit a prior to pregnancy - in the 3-6000 range had very minimal risks. Remember that you get vit a not only from vitamins themselves, but also from foods you eat.
