A member asked:

How long after taking a high dose of vitamin a is it safe to get pregnant? (i took an average of 26, 000 iu's for about 4.5 months).

A doctor has provided 1 answer

VIt A and Pregnancy: Somewhat controversial. One study indicated that intakes of 10000 iu or more should not be taken for 7 weeks prior to a pregnancy attempt. Once pregnant, a minimum amount of vit a is essential - 3-4000 iu. Women taking smaller amounts of vit a prior to pregnancy - in the 3-6000 range had very minimal risks. Remember that you get vit a not only from vitamins themselves, but also from foods you eat.
