A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thumb infection: Sometimes bacteria can enter the space between your fingernail and your thumb. It is important to keep the area clean with a good soap and water cleansing, at least 3 to 4 times daily and keep the area covered with a light bandage and possibly antibiotic cream. Most of the time this will resolve within 5 to 6 days. If the redness becomes more widespread, see your doctor.
