Hi there, my son is almost 2 months old and he is on similac isomil soy formula and he is really constipated. the pediatrician said that i must give him 5mls of lacson in his milk every morning. it does not help him. can i give him more than 5mls?

Try natural: In kids that age I like to use full strength prune juice at a dose of 1 oz spaced out 2-4 times/day. It has a sugar that is not absorbed well at that age & works like lacson. Within 2-3 days they loosen up. Dosing frequency can be increased or decreased based on stool quality. You can use lacson the same way, I just like natural.

Really constipated?: My first answer to your question is to ask you another question- is he really constipated? Constipation in an infant that young is hard formed stools that are difficult to pass. If his stools are soft and/or runny, he is not constipated. At this age, it has nothing to do with number of stools, time interval between stools, or grunting/crying/passing gas. That may signal a formula intolerance.
