You may need an antibiotic but most coughs are not bacterial infections needing that treatment. However, the only way to tell is to have an in-person medical evaluation so that you can have your ears, throat, nose, and most importantly, your lungs examined. You may also need an X-ray if the doctor thinks it is necessary...but the first step is to be examined.
