My dad recently got diagnosed with leukemia at ate 56, i was reading through some articles and was curious if leukemia could potentially have spread to me. could i have gotten it or would the parents need to have it before me being born?

No: Leukemia is not a contagious disease nor is it passed to you before you were born. There are some populations that are likely pre-disposed to developing medical conditions through a variety of genetic or environmental influences, but it is not passed like eye color or similar traits.
