Fungal?: Not visualizing the nail, one would assume you're referring to a nail fungus. This is difficult to treat but is treatable and i believe necessary as it is an infection. In europe, they treat with antifungals for the first week of each month for 4 months and the results are just as efficacious as treating everyday for the same time period. The idea is to get the new nail growing embedded with medic.

Depends: This is dependent on what the cause and the actual discoloration if of the nail. See a specialist for this problem.
