Is it safe to use mecurochrome along with surgical spirits to dry up a newborns umbilical coed?

Use NOTHING!: Please don't use anything to the cord area. Most studies have shown that using things to "keep cord clean" actually lead to more infections , especially with resistant bacteria. Just let cord dry out, if it gets soiled with urine or stool, just use soap and water to clean it. Usually falls off more quickly if you just leave it alone - Mother Nature will take care of it.

Inadvisable: Using toxic chemicals on the umbilical stump is not recommended. The stump should be allowed to dry naturally; if soiled with stool, dab with warm water and pat firmly dry. A little patience and the stump will fall off.
