HIV symptoms: Symptoms cannot tell whether or not someone has HIV. Only a blood test can do that, no matter what symptoms you do or don't have, and no matter how long after exposure. Initial HIV symptoms often start 10-20 days after infeciton. Symptoms of advanced infection can occur anywhere from 2 months to 20 years after catching the virus. Without Rx, some die in a year, others 5-10 yr, rarely over 20.
