Depends where: Palpation examination can tell a doctor a lot about the pain. Tissue texture, hypertonicity, warmth, etc. Can provide useful information. For instance, palpation of the musculoskeltal structures of the spine is different than palpation of the abdomen. The generalization that if pain is palpable then its a musculoskeltal pain is not a true medical fact.
