Cause?: How it is treated depends on exactly what it is. A careful history should give the answer: what part of body, size of lesion, associated symptoms, appearance on physical exam, itchy or not. So the details are important. If a insect bite, just keep clean and dry. If ringworm, requires an antifungal cream. If skin infection (cellulitis), involves antibiotic. Your GP should be able to decide.
