A member asked:

I have been recently diagnosed with chronic hypertension and started with the treatment 2 weeks ago. a few days ago, i started having swollen foots (both of them), and sometimes feels uneasy generally, could this be side effects of the medication?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Edema: Certain antihypertensive medications like the calcium channel blockers amlodipine, nifedipine nicardipine can cause harmless ankle or foot edema because of their vasodilating properties. An option is to add a low dose diuretic or switch medications to ACE inhibitor or angiotensin receptor blocker class which don't have the side effect of edema in feet or ankles. Lisinopril, losartan are examples
