Edema: Certain antihypertensive medications like the calcium channel blockers amlodipine, nifedipine nicardipine can cause harmless ankle or foot edema because of their vasodilating properties. An option is to add a low dose diuretic or switch medications to ACE inhibitor or angiotensin receptor blocker class which don't have the side effect of edema in feet or ankles.
