For the past three days i've been taking lorazepam 0.5mg for some moderate work related anxiety. my last dose was around 14 hours ago. would it be safe to take 50mg of tramadol now? (i am prescribed this for back pain from a different doctor?

PROBABLY: High recommendation that these two meds not be combined sue to sedation. However the dose of the lorazepam is low and if it was that long ago should be fine. Hopefully your doctors know that you have been prescribed both and are in agreement.
