A member asked:

If you've gone a few days without having a bowel movement, is it normal for your first bowel movement after that to cause some pretty strong stomach cramps? or for that bowel movement to be a lot of diarrhea?

Yes: To both as the bowel would have to build more pressure in order to push out fecal material. The peristalsis wave will push out also semi or undigested material that will create the loose appearance at the end. Constipation has to be addressed, talk to your doc about laxatives and proper use. Physical exercise and proper hydration at a minimum should be part of lifestyle changes.

Agree with Dr. P: To stay regular increase your intake of fiber and water. You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods.
