A member asked:

My husband has hemochromatosis. he started phlebotomy last week. i have read that calcium can inhibit iron absorption. should he be taking a calcium supplement? his hematologist did not mention it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not effective: Calcium intake will not materially affect iron absorption. It is imperative that your husband reduce the iron overload in his body through repeated phlebotomy/blood letting. Wish you and your husband good health!
