Inflammation: Swelling of an area that has been injured is typically caused by inflammation and the recruitment of fluid into the area from your blood vessels to address the injury. Alternating Ice and warm compresses (10 minutes each with 10 minutes between) can help to reduce inflammation and allow for good drainage from the area. If the swelling persists more than 5 days, see your Dr for exam.
