May be sensitive: The main side effect of scaling and root planing is sensitivity, especially in the case of severe calculus deposition and/or bone loss. Asked the hygienist for the in office Fluoride application or even better, teeth desensitizer application of gluma (potassium oxalate) to help you reduce sensitivity in the areas of severe bone loss (usually lower anterior teeth).

Deep cleaning?: Is your question about being sore after scaling? It is possible that your teeth can be sore from either a regular cleaning where the teeth were scaled or from a deep cleaning in which they are scaled below the gums. This should be a temporary symptom and go away after a few days.
