A member asked:

I have been prescribed 1mg clonazepam and 2.5 mg olanzapine together, and read that there is a major interaction with the 2 which can cause shallow breathing, low pulse, etc. is this only true for the intramuscular olanzapine, or the oral tablet too?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Psychiatric meds: These 2 meds prescribed together are best managed by a behavioral health provider, psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner due to the complexity of their interaction. According to UpToDate reference, the injectable olanzapine given with a med like clonazepam can cause these effects-no mention of the oral form, but it is recommended to avoid this combo if possible.
