A member asked:

Hiv testing: would a rna pcr taken at 26 days and a duo 4th gen test taken at 30 days be conclusive to exclude hiv infection?cdc states the window period to last 33 days and 45 days respectively, based on a 2017 study?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The newer antigen/antibody tests, now referred to as 4th generation tests, can detect hiv in 99% of people who have been exposed between 13 to 42 days of exposure. I like to have the advice of a specialist in infectious diseases to validate the results if I have any confusion about the testing in certain cases.
