Lactation Specialist: Blisters/Cracks on the nipple during breastfeeding could be a sign that the baby is not latching on correctly. Correcting poor positioning or latch-on can often alleviate sore, cracked nipples and allow healing to begin. If the breast or nipple turns red or hot during the early days of breastfeeding your nipple pain may be due to thrush or bacterial infection. Talk to a lactation consultant.
