Yes: There are a handful of medications that have been approved for weight loss. These include phentermine, diethylpropion, and recently approved Qsymia (phentermine and topiramate) and lorcaserin. They are helpful in short-term weight and need to be prescribed and managed under care of a physician. There are contraindication to their use and require thorough cardiac evaluations before starting them.
