Apprehension test: A thorough knee exam including an apprehension test, a lateral tilt test, a patellar compression test, knee range of motion, quadriceps strength and muscle balance are some of the basic tests we use to evaluate a patella that may be misaligned. Combined with a thorough history and a 4-view knee series, most diagnoses in and around the knee cap can be determined. An MRI is often ordered as well.
