A member asked:

My masseter muscle is slightly larger on one side than the other. i've heard about chewing on the weak side but i'm afraid of that causing more asymmetries and i have also heard about chewing evenly until it evens out. what should i do to solve this?

Muscles for chewing: Overlying the masseter muscle is a very large gland called the parotid. There are other glands in the area that release saliva to help start digestion in your mouth. If a gland's duct is blocked or if there is an infection, the gland will swell and often hurt. Your doctor needs to see this and go over your symptoms. If cleared, next step would be to clear any dental problem that is underlying.
