Few weeks at most: The time for stitches to disolve varies with the size and type of suture involved. For most stitches used to repair a laceration (tear) after having a baby, they would disolve within a few weeks at most. If you think the vaginal area is not healing appropriately, check with your OB doctor. And congratulations!

Months: The time varies depending on what kind of suture, or thread, was used and the extent of the stitches. But in general it takes 6-8 weeks or even more for your stitches to dissolve. You may notice the knotted ends coming off; the internal portion of the stitches under the skin are made to dissolve.

Depends on suture: Depending on the type of suture material used, it could take two to eight weeks for it to be reabsorbed.
