A member asked:

My stool is frequently covered in white mucus. this is not unusual for me. however, i have just had a bowel movement covered in thick, brown mucus. does this mean that there is blood in my stool?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Stool test: It is not feasible to state if you have blood in your stool without examining your stool. Your doctor can order stool test to look for blood. Having more fiber and water in your diet may help. You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods.
