Elderly mother cancer spine compression for 3 yrs bedbound flinches when you gently touch her and keeps her eyes closed ,but will open if asked but why the need to keep eyes tightly closed most of the time?

Have physician exami: Older people can be depressed and be withdrawn. If she follows instructions and is able to eat, then she is not likely to have any serious reason to keep her eyes closed, other than lack of interest in her surroundings, which can happen in a person who is depressed. Spinal cement: Depending on the status of her mental function, and cancer treatment, we would need to know more about her spine imaging. If there is compression but NO involvement of neurological structures, she may be a good candidate for KYPHOPLASTY which is done through a large needle (to place stabilizing cement in her vetrebra and also help improve the height compression).
