I have been on prednisone, 4 tablets daily, for the past 2 days to treat my asthma but i've been experiencing a phlegm build up which causes me to cough. should i stop the meds? does prednisone cause this?

No: Excessive mucus & cough are often part of an asthma event. I would not stop the meds which may be what are keeping you out of the hospital.
