Cardiologist visit: Your concern is accurate, as that is above an average expected max HR for a 40 year old, particularly given your athletic resting heart rate (which is quite good). A cardiology evaluation and possibly echocardiogram may be useful to determine why your heart rate is compensating for something structural or functional in your hear. (My answer is assuming you are not taking work out stimulants).
