A member asked:

I had an ife test done. the results stated. one trace igg lambda monoclonal protein migrating in the gamma region. reference range: no monoclonal proteins detected. my rheumatologist said that the results were normal but didnt explain the meaning?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, a monoclonal immunoglobulin can be part of a normal immune response. You may wish to have the test repeated in a year or so. Do not go for serum free light chains. Wish you good health!
