Doctor ordered a stress test. how safe are these for folks with potential heart issues? i'm kind of scared to do it.

Stress test: Unless you're experiencing symptoms of unstable coronary artery disease and/or have EKG findings consistent with an acute cardiac process, and your physician would be able to recognize this, treadmill stress testing is quite safe. You start off walking for 3 minutes and if all is well the treadmill is raised a few degrees and 3 minutes of walking again is ok, the treadmill speed is increased,etc

Basics: These tests are monitored continuously by staff who are well aware of early signs of trouble at which point they would stop the test. They are done with that in mind under safe conditions. If you have such concerns please clarify the test conditions with your doc. You don't need to be an emotional wreck before testing. I would do one without reservation.
