Herpes 1: Often the first episode of a cold sore outbreak is associated with throat soreness and swollen lymph glands. Oral and topical antiviral medications may shorten duration of symptoms, especially if used early. Future outbreaks may occur and have less symptoms except the cold sore eruption. Your pharmacist can recommend some nonprescription medications for you.
