Reduce swelling: Swelling after surgery is quite common and usually nothing to worry about. However, it can be uncomfortable. Here are several tips you can follow that help reduce swelling in your leg/ankle: Elevate your affected leg or arm above the level of your heart, using pillows or cushions. Apply ice for 10 to 20 minutes every 1 to 2 hours, Move your ankle and toes to help with circulation.
