Concerning: Smoke damages the sensitive lining of the mouth and throat, so you probably have some inflammation going on - that's why it hurts to swallow. But every smoker who has problems swallowing absolutely needs to get checked out by a doctor because of concern for something more serious like oral or throat cancer.
