Stabbing pain: Such fleeting chest pains without associated cough are usually not serious but are due to an irritable superficial nerve in the chest wall or a pinched nerve in the rib cage especially if provoked by a deep breath. If you haven't already had one,get a chest xray to rule out lung pathology and give you peace of mind.
