Basically in the last week my right knee has started to hurt and it feels like the pain is right underneath the kneecap. when i put my hand on my knee i can feel a little loose cartilage. it hurts a little when bending and going up and down stairs. any thoughts on what it might be? i have put some ice on it in the meantime. knee issue

Knee pain: I assume there has been no rent injury or overuse. The cause could be prepatella tendonitis or bursitis, cartilage damage,ligament damage,arthritis,chondromalacia. You wouldn't be able to palpate the cartilage which is in the interior of the knee joint. Try taking anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen or naproxen for several days or so. See an orthopedic specialist as needed.
